(just a story i came up with based on a rp from another site. Sandclaw and Spottedleaf are my creations!!)
Chapter 1: Flashback
Sandclaw padded toward the entrance to the Thunderclan camp. She had woken up early to go hunting. As she padded through the gorse tunnel she nearly ran into Spottedleaf, Thunderclan’s current deputy.
Spottedleaf spat angrily.
“Watch where you’re going!” she yowled, “And where are you going, by the way, at this early hour?”
Sandclaw felt her muscles bunch under her pelt and the hairs along her neck lift. Something about Spottedleaf always bothered her. Spottedleaf was the daughter of Tigerstar and resembled him so closely. She had the same, dark reddish tabby pelt, the same deep, threatening amber eyes, and the same long, hooked claws. Sandclaw knew that it wasn’t right to judge another cat based on their parents actions, but Spottedleaf was different. How, she wasn’t quite sure, but she just had a strange sense of distrust and suspicion whenever Spottedleaf was around. The day Spottedleaf was named deputy of Thunderclan, Sandclaw remembered being in complete shock. Her father, Firestar, had been mortal enemies with Spottedleaf’s father. Sandclaw couldn’t believe that her father would wish for Tigerstar’s daughter to not only be deputy, but possibly leader one day.
“I asked you a question,” snarled Spottedleaf, causing Sandclaw to snap out of her thoughts.
“I’m going hunting” she replied coolly, fur bristling, “Is that okay with you?”
Spottedleaf hissed, “This time yes, but next time, if you give me that attitude I’ll confine you to the warrior’s den. Is that clear?”
“Crystal,” said Sandclaw, lip lifted in slight snarl as she turned to bound up the ravine and into the surrounding forest.
“One of these days…” she murmured to herself as she bounded through the woods, ears alert to the sounds of prey in the undergrowth.
Sandclaw had just been made warrior about half a moon ago. She had made enemies with Spottedleaf early on. When Sandclaw was born, Spottedleaf was leaving the nursery and moving to the apprentice’s den. When Sandclaw grew older and received her apprentice name, Sandpaw, she moved into the apprentice den with Spottedleaf. Spottedleaf was only a moon away from being made warrior, so she began to help Sandclaw train. The two never really hit it off that well. During the first training session, Sandpaw’s mentor, Dustpelt, was teaching her some simple defense moves. Spottedpaw constantly criticized her and her moves. Sandpaw soon began to loose her patience with the older apprentice. She finally snapped when Spottedpaw began to boss her around.
“Look!” she had snarled, “Just because you’re older than me doesn’t give you the right to boss me around! You’re an apprentice too, remember?”
Spottedpaw spat angrily and leapt at Sandpaw.
“Take that back you fleabag!” she yowled.
Sandpaw however was faster. She dodged Spottedpaw’s attack at the last second, causing Spottedpaw to careen wildly and fall on the other side of the training hollow. Sandpaw didn’t waste a second. Turning, she pinned Spottedpaw to the ground.
“Pride goeth before a fall,” she snarled in her ear.
Sandpaw moved to allow an very angry Spottedpaw get up. Spottedpaw bent and pretended to groom her dusty pelt. The second Sandpaw looked away she leapt at her, but was thrown back as a large paw swept in and swatted her away.
“Spottedpaw!” snarled Mudfur angrily, “This is ridiculous! Enough!”
Spottedpaw slunk back at her mentor’s harsh words, but shot a threatening glance at Sandpaw.
On the way back to the camp, Spottedpaw moved to speak to Sandpaw.
“I won’t forget this fleabag,” she snarled in her ear, “I’ll get my revenge one day. Just you wait. And if I were you, I would watch my back.”
Spottedleaf never forgot…and she kept her promise, so many moons later.
